The provider and her husband are very experienced carers, having provided long term care for over 20 years to one service user. This service user is a 59 year old man with Learning Disabilities who is registered blind and has some mobility problems. He is extremely settled and happy and is very much part of the providers family. He is very sociable and enjoys playing cards, singing and joining in with all the family activities.

The house is a four bed terrace with a garden to the front and enclosed garden to the rear. The bedroom to be offered for a short break/respite is a single bedroom with television on the second floor close to a bathroom and toilet.

The family enjoy gardening, computers, craft work and going out for the day by car. They have 2 small friendly dogs, a rabbit and keep chickens. The vacancy is ideal for a mature person who would enjoy spending time with the family and the resident service user.

Teignmouth town centre, railway station and seafront are 20 minutes walk away. A bus to the town centre stops right outside the house. Teignmouth is a lively town with all the amenities of a seaside town.

These newly approved Providers have vacancies for short break service users of any age group, they have a wealth of experience between them of working with Learning and physically disabled people.  They share their home with their 2 sons aged 13 and 11 and daughter aged 5, the family has a cat and a friendly dog plus a rabbit and 2 guinea pigs.

The property is a large detached house situated on a village street in the midst of the rural village of Hemyock.  Hemyock is within commuting distance of Taunton, Tiverton, Honiton, Cullompton and Exeter and is close to the M5 motorway.

The accommodation consists of:
Ground Floor – Utility room, Large Kitchen, separate Dining area, Large Lounge, office, rear lobby, plus sun room.  There is also a ground floor bedroom with shower room and toilet – bedroom can be reached through ramped access.

Upstairs there are 5 larger than double bedrooms plus two bathrooms.

There is no front garden, whilst there is a front door to the property this is directly onto the village street and therefore the main entrance to the property is to the side through the kitchen.  There is a large back garden laid to lawn with a patio area with 4 steps up to lawn,  drive at side of property with parking for several cars.

Accessibility:  2 Steps down from Kitchen to dining area, 2 steps down from dining area to downstairs bedroom – but this room can be accessed through sun room which is level access. Stairs to upper floor – depth of top stair differs to other stairs

These vacancies would suit any age group of person who would enjoy having breaks within a lively family setting in a village location.

An experienced provider who has recently been approved to offer one short break or respite place in addition to one long term placement (this service user is a sociable young lady with mild learning disabilities and cerebral palsy and has lived with the provider since she was a child (approximately 14 years)). The provider also lives with her 13 year old daughter and 2 friendly dogs. The provider enjoys an active lifestyle and would be happy to involve the person in family life and excursions. She has recent experience of teaching her service user various independence skills and this would benefit a person who would like to be part of a young family and would like to learn the skills necessary to enable him/her to live more independently.

The situation is not suitable for a person with mobility difficulties as there are stairs to the bedroom. The family home has a light, open aspect and is situated in a quiet village near Totnes. Although the village only has a limited bus service, the provider would facilitate lifts into Totnes and regularly travels into Kingsbridge. The property has a large garden to the rear on a sloping site, with bedrooms on the lower floor.

These newly registered providers are registered for 1 Short Break placement and live in Dawlish, close to the town centre but in a quiet residential area with parkland close by. The providers have experience of learning disability through support work and in caring for their learning disabled son (who has left home to live in his own home with support). One remaining 18 year old son lives with the couple. The family have two cats. Their home has become a vibrant hub for their extended family (their other children have all settled close by and other family and friends are all frequent visitors).

The couple are very interested in supporting people who wish to develop their daily living skills and independence and have a lot of experience in those areas. They are very established in their community and a service user would benefit from their knowledge of what is available in the area and their contacts.

The house has external steps to the front door and is on 3 levels with patio and garden to the rear and garden to the front of the property. It would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The room for the service user is an attractive and spacious double with TV. The bathroom is directly opposite.

Dawlish is a holiday destination and has very good leisure facilities (sports, beach, country parks, shopping etc) and transport links.

Experienced provider in Plymouth Keyham area who has 2 short break or long term vacancies. 

This provider has experience with a full range of service users needs and has been used to working both at home and in the community/residential setting. Coming from a person centred aspect she is able to be a flexible and creative support to a service user living /staying with her. This provider’s family has now grown up and moved from home and she has one dog that is very quiet and well behaved. Used to facilitating access to the local community she has supported service users to advance their independence skills, enjoy leisure facilities new to them and go on holiday, experience new and varied social situations. She has transport but the local bus service into town goes from her road and there is a local shop.

Being a short walk from a local park her home is welcoming and cheerful and is a mid terrace 3 bedroom property with a double and large single room available. There is a large and comfortable lounge and a separate sitting room. The kitchen diner looks out onto the large yard which is again a colourful and cheerful sunny place.

A newly approved provider in The Willows, Torquay, within walking distance of M&S, Sainsbury and bus service which goes into the town centre.  This provider has over 20 years experience of working with vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, mental health problems and the elderly.  She lives with her husband and they enjoy a fun and active lifestyle; this includes trips out, shopping, yoga and swimming.

This provider has long term and short break vacancies.  She is keen to support someone to maintain and or learn independent living skills making a long term contribution to the quality of a service user’s life.

A newly approved provider in Paignton, approximately 15 minutes walk from the town centre.  This provider has over 19 years experience of working with the elderly in various capacities.  She lives with her husband and two small dogs in a semi detached bungalow in a quiet side road of Paignton.  This provider enjoys walking, days out, gardening, art, embroidery, tapestry and cake decorating.

There is one Short Break space available for an older person with and or dementia/mental health problems and a ramp has been built at the front of the house.  This provider is keen to enhance the quality of life for an older person while maintaining their independence and abilities for as long as possible.
