Placement providers are individuals and families who provide care and accommodation in their own homes for a vulnerable or disabled adult. Placement providers can provide up to a maximum of three places in their home. Placement providers have a variety of skills, experience and knowledge and may be able to support service users with very complex or demanding needs.
Providers go through an assessment and training process before being put forward for approval by an independent approval panel. All providers are required to meet agreed standards of care set down by SWAPS and will be regularly visited and monitored in compliance with the National Minimum Standard for Adult Placement Schemes.
Providers will be able to access training and support through SWAPS to ensure they meet the care and support needs of the people placed with them.

Our placement providers are spread throughout Devon and Cornwall and are supported by an adult placement officer. The placement officer has three main roles:
• To manage the referral and placement process - the “mixing and matching” process between service users, providers and the other people who live in the providers home
• To assess, monitor and review providers to ensure that SWAPS meets the requirements of the National Minimum Standards for Adult Placement Schemes
• To support providers in their role through regular telephone and face to face contact, training and meetings.
Placement officers are required under the regulations to make a minimum of four visits a year.
Providers offer:
• The service user to live as independently as possible whilst sharing in normal family life
• Safety and security
• Enable the service user to learn daily living skills and to become more independent where appropriate
• Companionship and a stimulating environment
• Meet the care and support needs of the service users in a friendly, personal and respectful way
