The Provider has relevant experience through several years work in Social Care and has been energetically supporting a woman in her sixties with a learning disability, who needs a fair amount of support and encouragement, since August 2008.

She also lives with her partner - who likewise works in Social Care, her son (born 1997) and a dog.

They live in a chalet bungalow on a steep bank very near to the sea front in Dawlish (accessed via steps).

They wish to provide a second place for someone who is not too dependent, having recently had approval for alterations to create a further bedroom within the bungalow. This work has now been completed and the place is available.

This is a newly approved provider with many years experience of working with young people with learning disabilities and older people. The provider and her partner live in a quiet residential area in a large comfortable house with their three dogs.  A young woman has recently moved in and has settled well.

The house is on three levels with two bedrooms on the top floor and two bedrooms on the second floor next to the family bathroom. The kitchen, lounge and dining room and a shower room are on the first floor. A large patio looks out over Braunton and the Taw/Torridge estuary. A games room below has a pool table and art materials to use. There is a long narrow garden with a vegetable plot and a menagerie of birds and rabbits.

The provider is keen to start with one person at a time to get to know them well; the young woman has a very active and creative life and follows a personal plan with the provider which includes activities, skills and tasks to do in the house as well as activities in the local community.

There is now room for another person to move in and join the family; this could be anyone with learning disabilities who enjoys an active lifestyle or an older more able person who enjoys an outgoing home life.

She lives with her husband and their two enthusiastic and playful children aged 9 & 6. They live in a very nice large detached property close to town and sea (with sea views).

The family enjoys time at home (including watching tv, films, reading, art & craft and computer games) but is also quite active, enjoying things outside such as walking the dogs, swimming, cycling, horse-riding, leisure parks, meals out, meeting with others.

The Provider wishes to offer a welcoming and supportive home with good quality support to a range of people with learning disabilities who would be happy to live in a very nice home with children.

This is an experienced provider with people with learning disabilities who would like to introduce a third person to her household. Two other adults in their 40s currently share the house along with the provider, her partner and her granddaughter.

The house is in St Thomas in Exeter, in a quiet residential street. It is an end terrace which has been enlarged over the years to make a comfortable, homely place with a private garden. The available bedroom is upstairs at the front of the house and has been newly decorated in a modern style.

The provider supports people to live as independently as they wish by helping out in the house, going shopping, doing voluntary work for local charities and going away on trips as often as possible. Other skills are supported and encouraged as people decide what they would like to do.

This vacancy would suit a mature adult who would like to learn new skills and who would benefit from sharing with people with similar interests.  

This is an experienced shared lives provider and his partner who live on the outskirts of Barnstaple in an excellent location with access to the town facilities by foot and the beauty of the North Devon coast by car. These providers have many years experience of working with people with learning disabilities abd challenging behaviour and are registered to provide care for two long term service users. They share their home with a female service user  and now have a vacany for another service user looking for long term care and support needs.

They all live in a semi-detached home which comprises a kitchen, dining room, lounge and conservatory downstairs and 3 double bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. There is a large garden to the rear of the property. 

This is a busy household that enjoys their many animals from rabbits to parrots and enjoy walking their dogs in the countryside. They live within commuting distance of Exeter (40 miles) and enjoy an active lifestyle making the most of the natural beauty in Devon. Gardening is high on the agenda and the allotment is used to grow their own vegetables. This is a non smoking household although a service user will be able to smoke in the garden if necessary.

This vacancy would be ideal for someone who is active and would gain a lot from a busy, fun and varying lifestyle. This would be an ideal placement for an active individual who has borderline learning disabilities/mental health needs who can gain a lot from a consistent lifestyle.

The Providers are a husband and wife team living in a rural village location but within a short ride of the nearby towns of Hatherleigh, Holsworthy and Okehampton which provide a huge variety of amenities, activities, shopping, leisure, work and educational opportunities.  The house is also within commuting distance of Barnstaple and Exeter.  The Village is an active community with activities and facilities being available in the village hall and local pub.

The house is a well appointed large spacious detached property, newly built and provides accommodation of an extremely high standard. It consists of 4 large double bedrooms and further bedroom covering the entire span of the house situated in the eaves which is currently occupied by the providers' son who is 14 years old.   The family share their home with two lady service users.  The family has an interest in breeding dogs, this is a household with high family values who wish to fully integrate a service user in all aspects of family life.

The female Provider has extensive experience of working with people of all abilities and age groups and this vacancy would provide a service user with a very varied life style. Encouragement and support would be given to ensure that a service user reaches their own personal goals and achievements.  Ideal location for someone with a love of dogs, who enjoys family outings and activities, and who would benefit from sharing a welcoming family home.

This property is an extensive manor house situated in Yelland North Devon near to the sea.  It is a large well maintained property with spacious accommodation situated in a quiet but central location. 

The provider is a trained nurse and is very experienced, she specialises in older service users.  The family consists of a female provider and her husband and they currently support an older gentleman service user who lives on the ground floor. 

There is a stair lift to the upper floors and the house has adaptations for less mobile service users. 

Other self contained wings of the property are occupied by the providers son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren and the provider’s parents.  This is a very family orientated provider who will welcome an older service user to the family group.

This newly approved Provider has long term vacancies for older service users.  She shares her home with her partner and two children aged 14 and 11 the family has two cats, plus rabbits and guinea pigs.

The property is a very large detached house set in about an acre of garden mainly to lawn & shrubs with small vegetable patch, greenhouse, garden store, and bridge over small stream leading to separate orchard/wildlife area, driveway to car parking area.  Patio area off of the sunroom and rear of house

The house is situated in a country lane just outside the rural village of Culmstock which is within walking distance; the village has good access to the M5 motorway or North Devon link road.  Downstairs there is an office which could be used as a second ground floor bedroom, 2 Lounges, dining room, large kitchen diner, utility room, sun room.  There is a downstairs bedroom available with a shower room opposite.  Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, plus a single room which could be used for short break/respite use.  There is also an annex attached to the house with its own kitchen and bedroom which can be accessed from the upper floor of the property this could be used to support someone to independent skills.  The decision as to which rooms would suit a service user best can be ascertained at the time of matching.

This is a very experienced provider who lives in a large detached house within walking distance of the centre of the coastal town of Teignmouth.  Local amenities include the beach, outdoor swimming pool, churches of all denominations along with a library,  college, shops, cafés and restaurants.

The accommodation is a self contained chalet style property just yards from the house within the garden area. This could be ideal for a young person or indeed anyone who was interested in developing or re-visiting independence skills. The provider has a lot of experience within the fields of older people, learning disability and people with mental health problems. She is very adept at building self esteem and she is resourceful regarding researching activities to assist and support anyone she cares for.

There are already 2 male service users (60ish), one with a mild learning disability who has been there for a couple of years and he is very happy, having gained a lot of new skills and increased independence, and one with more profound needs. Other members of the household include a teenage daughter and an older son. It is quite a lively house than can be full of chatter and people coming and going, but it also has its quiet times and there is always the opportunity for some quiet time.

There is a garden front and back and there are pets, two cats and a dog. The provider’s husband is always building or fixing something so there is plenty of scope for being outside watching or lending a hand if interested. Other hobbies within the household include reading, watching TV, socialising, walking the dog and cooking.

Anyone staying here would be guaranteed fun with plenty of stimulation and opportunities to be out and about within the community.

Matching clearly needs to take account of the couple's young son.
